While the Detroit-based automaker will continue to engage with its customers on the social media platform, it is revaluating Twitter’s new direction
Automaker General Motors (GM) on Friday said that it would be halting paid advertising on Twitter after business tycoon Elon Musk completed his acquisition of the social media platform.
GM is currently working with Twitter to understand the direction of the platform “under the new ownership.”
While the Detroit-based automaker will continue to engage with its customers on the platform, it is revaluating Twitter’s new direction with regards to its paid advertisement strategy.
“We are engaging with Twitter to understand the direction of the platform under their new ownership. As is normal course of business with a significant change in a media platform, we have temporarily paused our paid advertising. Our customer care interactions on Twitter will continue,” the company said in an emailed statement.
Musk after the Twitter takeover is the de facto chief of the social media platform but he is also Tesla’s CEO which rivals GM.
A day prior to Twitter deal’s closing, Elon Musk had written to advertisers in an open-letter tweet. He said, “Twitter obviously cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences!… Twitter aspires to be the most respected advertising platform in the world that strengthens your brand and grows your enterprise.”
